Funeral Options Burial
Around 30% of the British population choose to be buried in traditional church yards and municipal cemeteries.
Burial plots can cost anything between £30-£5000 depending on the location. Because of the pressure on space, particularly in urban areas, most burial plots are sold on a leasehold basis.
When you purchase a grave, you are buying the exclusive rights of burial for a set period of time - usually 50/75 years. In the final 5 years of this period you will be given the option of renewing for a further 25 years.
You need to obtained (a) a signed (by doctor) death certificate and (b) a certificate of burial from a registrar before a body can be buried.
Some people choose to arrange their grave space in a churchyard or cemetery before they die - so check the will.
Cemeteries are either owned by local authorities or private companies and their fees vary - if you wish to bury someone in a churchyard, you should contact the priest or minister.
Most cemeteries are open to all faiths - so you can have most types of funeral service.
